Austin was a city of constant conversation with my subconscious.
“How did we get here?”
You booked two tickets, found an Airbnb, and made dinner reservations in record time.
“But trips never come together that quickly.”
Well, you were a bit tipsy.
Oh, now it makes sense.
Austin was a city of pivoting and pivoting again.
Research best times of the year to go, or better yet which times to avoid. Pay attention to flight departure times and avoid any that say 5:05 am. Especially on Daylights Savings. Take in to account how walkable a city actually is. Not all downtowns have trains. As natives to Nashville, we should know.
Austin was a city of lessons learned.
SXSW? What does that stand for? South by Southwest is an internationally-attended tech, music, and film festival that occurs in Austin on the same weekend each year. It be busy. Real busy.
Surge pricing? Never heard of it? When Ubers and Airbnbs are in very high demand, prices may increase to help ensure that those who need a ride or place to stay can get one. Think what would cost $15 will now cost $45.
And yet, Austin was a city of second chances.
On-the-fly poems written on a typewriter inspired by your topic of choice. Win.
Realizing we miscalculated our dinner reservation by two hours. LOL.
Stumbling upon an orange blossom cocktail in a butterfly garden because of said miscalculation. Gold.
Eating the very best meal of my entire life. God’s honest truth.
Shoutout Jesse Griffiths at Dai Due.
Austin was not what either of us expected, but I wouldn’t have wanted to experience it with anyone but Bryce. He’s the best travel partner a girl like me could ask for.
p.s. On the flight home, we made plans to visit again just for another chance to eat at Dai Due.
Woof, I’m already drooling.
